Flashback to Let's Dance...

So the story goes, when David Bowie called on Nile Rodgers to produce his Let's Dance album in the early 80s, he wanted "guaranteed hits" or something like that, now, that tells you how much music has changed since then...   in the early 80s, you could have radio-friendly hits & still have fantastic musicianship.
Both the title track & China Girl have gorgeous guitar work, while Modern Love has some sexy saxophone during the coda. Now, fast-forward a few decades later, & if you want to get played on the radio- FORGET the guitars & saxophones, & replace it with beats & autotune!

And now, people go to see DJs in concert(!)

Parliament Funkentelechy

Things get even better AFTER he says "Take it to the bridge"..........

How's your Funkentelechy?

"The busy world was not for me, so I went and found my own" -I can relate..

The sky looks more interesting, when the rain is pouring down
A moody sky...

The bright, blinding sun is boring

People who have good taste in music, read books, & prefer cats over dogs are disappearing off the face of the earth- at least, that's what it looks like from where I stand!
If I see, one more person walking a dog, I'm gonna scream... I'm being bombarded by this lately, I know I didn't see it as much last year. But that's what happens when they're in EVERY tv ad.....

Preach, Wynton...

"But it is a constant uphill battle in our culture, because we're battling against a culture of pornography. You've going up against something more basic than music. I mean, its all around us.  It doesn't even have to be explained. Everywhere you turn, there it is, 'Bitch Better Have My Money' "
Wynton Marsalis
